"A school run by the community for the community!"
Our community is extremely proud of this school. We were involved right at the beginning of the project in 2003. We worked hard at renovating a derelict building and site and helped transform it into the fabulous space it is today.
Who we are Our community is still at the centre of the running of the school. The Parents’ Committee is how we keep in touch with the school and those who are running it. The committee consists of parents and guardians. We meet every term with the teachers to talk about the needs of the children and the school. What we do
We share the success stories and what’s happening at the school.
We share problems and concerns.
We discuss fund raising ideas.
We make plans for the future.
We then share this with others in the community.
And we run the annual Grade R Graduation party.
Who we are We are a group of local individuals committed to making sure the school has all the support it needs to fulfil its role.
We are the official representatives of the non-profit organization and are responsible for managing the finance of the school and other official administrative functions.
What we do Mentoring and support The board makes sure that:
Government regulations are followed
Salaries are paid on time
Teachers and staff get the professional development and management support they need
Teachers get the additional support they need (for example, Occupational Therapy for the children, art lessons, digital support)
Accounts and budgets are prepared and audited
Safe and appropriate transport is available to take the children to and from school (Food4Thought owns a bus and employs a dedicated driver).
Fundraising Over the years, the board has kept the school alive financially. Without the generous support of our donors, our school would not exist. Although there is a small government subsidy towards salaries, it only covers a small proportion of what is needed.
A good pre-school education is the foundation needed for success. Through hard work and various fund-raising campaigns, we have made sure that IsiXhosa speaking pre-school children from our community are able to have an exceptional learning experience. Thanks to the Food4Thought board, our children have the opportunity to take on the future.
Food 4 Thought Community projects NPC is a non-governmental organisation and an association not for gain. Our status allows us to issue tax certificates for donations. No. 2012/063692/08
